The month of September has turned out to be the best month for overall automotive sales in the country. The festival came early for vehicle makers as demand for all segments of the market posted robust demand. On a year-on-year basis, the total vehicle retail sale for the month of September’22 registered a growth of 11%.
Except for tractors which decreased by -1.5%, all the other categories were in the green. 2W, 3W, PV and CV were up by 9%, 72%, 10% and 19% respectively. The overall three-wheeler segment registered a strong growth of 71% with a total volume of 63,915 units in September’22.
The high demand for passenger, cargo carrier auto-rickshaw in the conventional and electric segments continues to accelerate the sale. Three-wheeler commonly referred to as ‘auto-rickshaw’ is at the heart of last-mile people mobility and cargo delivery across India. The passenger carrier auto-rickshaw segment grew by 57% while the goods carrier segment declined by 6%, whereas demand for electric auto-rickshaw continues to help the category to grow by 126%.
According to FADA, “The 3W segment continues to see structural shift from ICE to EV. This is also reflected in extremely healthy growth rate of e-rickshaw’s. Apart from better availability of vehicles with full range products including alternate fuels, customers have started using public transport and rickshaw service thus fuelling demand in this segment.”
