Ashok Leyland Joins Forces with Lockheed Martin for LAM Project

The defense arm of India's premier truck maker, Ashok Leyland Defense Systems (ALDS) has roped in the America's global security and aerospace firm Lockheed Martin for the development of light-specialist vehicles (LSVs) and light-armoured vehicles (LAVs) for Indian armed forces. As part of the agreement, base platform of Lockheed armored vehicles will be used to produce these LAVs and LSVs for the Indian Army. Hinduja Group's flagship company will play the role of a primary contractor and will offer cost effective yet high quality products for the global requirements. The Chennai based firm is currently drafting plans to make India a manufacturing hub to produce these vehicles.
Ashok Leyland believes that Lockheed Martin, being a licensed manufacturer of Common Vehicle Next Generation (CVNG), the collaboration between the duo will help create huge opportunities for exporting armored vehicles as Made in India products. Scott Greene, vice-president at Lockheed Martin also foresees greater opportunities in defense sector.

This partnership will not just further India’s ambitions under the Make in India programmer, but help us provide robust and meaningful solutions to armed forces across new domains and geographies. We are buoyant about the defense segment, and expect our play to increase manifold,” said Vinod Dasari, MD, Ashok Leyland.
"A combination of Lockheed Martin's technical expertise and our proven vehicle platforms, will enable us to offer versatile solutions to armed forces across segments," said Nitin Seth, president, LCV and Defense at Ashok Leyland.
The Indian Army is currently looking forward to modernize its fleet that would eventually lead to a great demand for the armored vehicles.
