FADA issued the monthly retail sales figures for the Indian commercial vehicle segment with the 8-best-selling truckmakers in January 2025. Tata Motors dominates the market.

In its monthly retail sales report for January 2025, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) released the best-selling commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturers with their market share proportion. Overall, the CV industry experienced a retail of 99,425 units in the domestic market in January 2025, showing an 8.22% YoY sales growth compared to retail sales of 91,877 units in January 2024.

Tata Commercial Vehicles Sales In January 2025
From 31,816 units of commercial vehicles sold in January 2024 to 31,393 units in January 2025, Tata Motors observed a 1.33% YoY decline in retail sales. In January 2025, the company maintained its largest market share of 31.57%, despite a marginal drop in monthly sales in the Indian CV retail. The brand is witnessing the trend of dropping its market share from 34.63% in January 2024 to 31.57% this year.
Mahindra Commercial Vehicles Sales In January 2025
Compared to the 23,675 units sold in January 2024, the brand sold 27,523 units in January 2025, showing a 16.25% YoY sales growth. With a rising 27.68% market share in January 2025, Mahindra & Mahindra is the second-largest player in the Indian retail commercial vehicle market. Mahindra is observing the growing market share in the CV sector from 25.77% in January 2024 to 27.68% in January this year.
Ashok Leyland Commercial Vehicle Sales In January 2025
Ashok Leyland is the third-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India according to the list of top-selling CV brands issued by FADA, with a 15.84% market share in the CV retail sector as of January 2025. The company's retail sales grew by 6.66% YoY from 14,764 units to 15,748 units between January 2024 and January 2025.
VE Commercial Vehicle Sales In January 2025
In comparison to the 6,021 units sold in January 2024, VE Commercial Vehicle saw a significant sales growth of 20.81% YoY with sales of 7,274 units in January 2025. The company holds a growing 7.32% market share in January this year from 6.55% in January last year. Maruti Suzuki, with a rising 5.25% market share in January this year, witnessed a remarkable increase in retail sales of 23.59% YoY in January 2025, selling 5,224 units as opposed to 4,227 units in January 2024.
BharatBenz Commercial Vehicle Sales In January 2025
BharatBenz Commercial Vehicles, formerly known as Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), reported retail sales of 2,151 units in January 2025 as opposed to 2,169 units sold in January 2024, reflecting a marginal sales drop of 0.83% YoY. During this period, the company's market share was 2.16%, slightly reducing from 2.36% in January 2024.
Force Motors Commercial Vehicle Sales In January 2025
In January 2025, Force Motors sold 1,621 units, a notable 26.84% YoY increase from the 1,278 units sold in the same month in 2024. In this last month, the brand maintained a 1.63% market share, up from 1.39% in January 2024.
SML Isuzu Commercial Vehicle Sales In January 2025
The SML Isuzu sold 690 units in January 2025, compared to 677 units in January 2024, indicating a marginal sales growth of 1.92% in the retail commercial vehicle market. The company holds a consistent market share of 0.69% in January 2025 which is similar to 0.74% in January 2024. The sales of the other CV manufacturers increased by 7.60% YoY, from 7,250 units sold in January 2024 to 7,801 units sold in January 2025.

Retail sales in CV categories like LCV and MCV increased 10.05% YoY and 24.87% YoY respectively during this period but the HCV category reported a marginal 0.53% drop in retail sales. Compared to December 2024, when 72,028 units were sold, the CV retail sector highlighted a 5.95% MoM (month-on-month) sales decline in January 2025.
