FADA Records 6.86% YoY Three-Wheeler Retail Sales Growth In January 2025

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the apex authority on retail sales in the Indian auto industry, has published its monthly sales report for January 2025. This covers the 3-wheeler industry's retail sales performance for e-rickshaws, cargo 3-wheelers, e-carts, passenger 3-wheelers, and personal 3-wheelers.

Indian 3-Wheeler Sales Report For January 2025

Retail sales of passenger e-rickshaws dropped by 4.21% YoY from 40,537 units sold in January 2024 to 38,830 units sold in January 2025. Retail sales of e-rickshaws with carts increased by 53.85% YoY last year, from 3,744 units sold in January 2024 to 5,760 units in January 2025.

The 3-wheeler (goods) category saw a 12.32% YoY growth in retail sales in the month of January 2025, selling 12,036 units as opposed to 10,716 units in January 2024. Retail sales of 85 units of three-wheelers (personal) were made throughout January 2025, up 70% YoY from 50 units sold in January 2024.

Compared to the 45,113 units sold in January 2024, the 3-wheelers (passengers) category saw retail sales of 50,322 units in January 2025, representing an 11.55% YoY increase in retail sales. India's retail sales of 3-wheelers increased 6.86% YoY in January 2025, reaching 1,07,033 units from 1,00,160 units sold in the same month the previous year.

Rural-Urban Divide: 3-Wheeler Sales In January 2025

FADA thoroughly examined the percentage of retail 3-wheeler sales in urban and rural areas. Rural and urban RTOs made comparable contributions to the Indian 3-wheeler sector during the last month. In January 2025, rural areas accounted for 50.2% of three-wheeler retail sales, while urban areas accounted for 49.8%.

Bajaj Auto surpassed 37,148 units sold in January 2024 to take the top spot among 3-wheeler OEMs with 39,488 units sold in the same month in 2025, according to FADA’s 3-wheeler retail sales figures. The report showed a 6.30% YoY rise in the company's yearly retail sales.

According to FADA, Bajaj Auto had the largest market share of any company in the three-wheeler sector in India in 2024, accounting for 36.89% of the market. From 8,271 units in Jan’2024 to 7,904 units in Jan’2025, Piaggio three-wheelers’ retail sales decreased 4.41% YoY, resulting in a 7.38% market share.

From 5,316 units sold in January of 2024 to 6,931 units sold in January of 2025, Mahindra's retail sales grew by 30.38% YoY. The company's market share in the Indian 3-wheeler sector is 6.48% throughout this period. In 2024, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recorded a 6.44% market share.

Retail sales of YC Electric Vehicles rose 15.02% YoY to 3,882 units in January 2025 from 3,375 units in January 2024. After selling 2,078 units in the first month of the calendar year 2024, Atul Auto sold 2,748 units in January 2025, a 32.24% YoY increase. TVS Motors sold 2,703 units of 3-wheelers in January 2025, up 46.90% YoY from 1,840 units sold in January 2024.

Saera Electric Auto's January 2025 retail sales of 2,270 units was a 3.85% YoY decrease from 2,361 units in January 2024. Retail sales of Dilli Electric Auto's City Life brand decreased by 4.14% YoY, reaching 1,924 units sold in January 2025 compared to 2,007 units sold in January 2024. 

3-Wheeler Retail Sales For April 2024-January 2025

Considering the retail sales of 3-wheelers during the month from April 2024 to January 2025 in the Indian market, the segment witnessed a 6.29% YoY increase in sales by selling 10,27,437 units in YTD (Year To Date) FY25 compared to 9,66,612 units in April 2024-January 2025.
