Racing ahead of competition, a heavy duty truck from Scania has ranked first in Europe’s toughest and one of the largest comparative truck tests—the 1000 Point Test. The test was conducted in the heavy commercial vehicle (500 hp) range and the Scania S 500 emerged as the winner competing against other trucks in the category.
The 1000 Point Test comprises of subjective as well as objective measuring done by an international team of trucking journalists who analyze the trucks in terms of elements, features and characteristics. The 1000 Point Test is organized by Germany’s established commercial vehicle publishing house, ETM Verlag (whose publications include popular magazines such as Lastauto Omnibus and Fernfahrer) in association with other major European trade magazines.
The Scania S 500 competed with other trucks with the largest truck cabs, the DAF XF510, Mercedes Actros 1848 and Volvo FH500. According to a leading German trade megazine, Lastauto Omnibus, the verdict was in favour of the Volvo S 500. “High performance with low fuel consumption, the best driving characteristics, a high level of comfort and a better place to work – that skilfully paves the way for the new S-class,” the magazine noted.
Lastauto Omnibus also highlighted the fact that the new S series was much more advanced as compared to the existing R series including features such as a larger, comfortable bed, flat cab floor.
