Many brands launched their new EVs in the Indian market for electric 3-wheelers in 2024 like Mahindra e-Alfa Plus, Lohia Narain iCE, Godawari Eblu Cety, Komaki CAT 3.0 NXT, and more.

As the calendar year 2024 comes to an end, we are going to remind you of all the significant launches in the electric 3-wheeler segment this year. This is the segment in the Indian automobile industry which experienced robust double-digit sales growth with a record-breaking 7,00,000 unit sales this year.
Around 600 brands are competing with each other in this segment in the Indian market. Every brand shares a similar vision of promoting reliable and sustainable mobility in both passenger and cargo transportation across the country. To electrify the domestic market, many brands launched their electric vehicles (EVs) in the 3-wheeler segment in 2024. Let’s recollect the memories of major happenings in the electric 3-wheeler segment this year.

Mahindra Introduced E-Alfa Plus Rickshaw
In July 2024, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility announced the launch of the E-Alfa Plus rickshaw with a powerful PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and a new battery. High power and pickup are provided by the upgraded battery pack, which also has a greater capacity to support loads. It has a spacious interior and can accommodate 4 passengers.
Featuring 3 driving modes – low, medium, and high – the Mahindra e-Alfa Plus model increases productivity and contributes to higher profits. For both intra-city and inter-city passenger movement, its battery pack offers an enhanced driving range of more than 100 km. This model can attain its top speed of 25 kmph on public roads.
In order to ensure a smooth commute, it maintains 127 mm of ground clearance in loading conditions and 132 mm when empty. To maximise the charging duration of around 10-12 hours, its battery is charged using an 18 A off-board charger, and its strong PMSM motor supports a high loading capacity.

Lohia Launched Narain iCE And Humsafar iK Tipper
In August 2024, Lohia announced the launch of the Narain iCE passenger rickshaw to offer an eco-friendly option for urban commuters. Its butterfly-shaped construction gives it a sleek, modern look with keyless entry for added convenience. With its 48-volt, 130 Ah liquid-activated battery, the Lohia Narain iCE can travel 80-90 kilometres between charges.
The Narain iCE rickshaw can be powered by either lead acid batteries with 130/135/150 Ah capacities or lithium batteries with 51.2 V and 105 Ah capacities. It takes 4 hours to charge a lithium battery and 7-8 hours for a lead acid battery. This electric 3-wheeler can accommodate a driver and 4 passengers.
In November 2024, the company unveiled its sustainable garbage solution dubbed Humsafar iK Tipper to offer reliable waste management and collection. It attains a top speed of 49.5 kmph and delivers a power of 7.4 hp. Fitted with 10 kWh battery capacity, this model is claimed to drive up to 100 kilometres on a single charge, making it a sustainable substitute for conventional diesel-powered utility vehicles.
With L5 electric 3-wheelers, such as the E5 Passenger for urban and semi-urban commuting and E5 Cargo for sustainable logistics, Lohia Auto unveiled its new electric vehicle brand Youdha at EV Expo 2024 in December to increase its manufacturing and marketing capabilities of 3 lakh units by 2027.

Godawari Electric Motors Launched Eblu Cety E-Rickshaw
In September 2024, Godawari Electric Motors introduced the brand-new Eblu Cety e-rickshaw, which has a driver and seats 4 passengers, to satisfy the demand for environmentally friendly and effective urban transportation. This e-rickshaw is said to be the first electric rickshaw in the country designed with a DCPD (Dicyclopentadiene) panel to offer great impact strength and durability.
Its 240 mm ground clearance allows it to traverse a driving range of urban terrains. It can accommodate 4 passengers and a driver for last-mile transportation thanks to its 693 kg gross vehicle weight. The Eblu Cety e-rickshaw can travel up to 25 kmph and has a driving range of 95 km between charges. Its 7-degree gradeability allows it to transport passengers on sloping surfaces, such as flyovers.

Komaki Electric Vehicle Launched CAT 3.0 NXT
In October 2024, the Komaki Electric Vehicle Division introduced the new CAT 3.0 NXT electric delivery vehicle, which offers two battery options – lithium-phosphate with a range of 140–200 km per charge and graphene with a range of 120–180 km per charge – for last-mile delivery. Its battery requires 4-5 hours to fully charge on its portable charger.
Its fully sturdy iron body allows it to handle 500 kg loads, which makes it an excellent option for both passenger and freight transportation within cities. Its ability to be converted into a loader makes it a flexible mobility option for a range of mobility needs. Komaki CAT 3.0 NXT is perfect for delivering hot and frozen goods because of its adjustable insulated load body, which can maintain its temperatures.

Rilox EV Introduced Bijli Trio E-Cart
In November 2024, the Bijli Trio, a 3-wheeled electric cart designed for small and medium-sized enterprises, was unveiled by Rilox EV. The newly released Bijli Trio has a 60 V, 1200 W motor with an IP67 rating and a 3 kW detachable/removable battery option. The detachable battery alternatives provide operational flexibility and allow continuous operation by swapping out depleted batteries for charged ones.
With a driving range of 100-120 km per charge, the Bijli Trio has telescopic suspension and a sturdy frame that gives comfort and durability. It provides a large cargo area to carry a market load of up to 500 kg. It can accommodate a range of business models, including last-mile delivery and mobile vending, thanks to its several configurations, which include variants with or without a lockable cargo box.

Joy E-Rik Launched Electric 3-Wheelers In 2024
In December 2024, Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility announced a new range of electric 3-wheelers under the Joy E-Rik brand to promote efficient and environmentally friendly mobility solutions. The brand debuted Joy Eco and Sahayak Plus in the commercial segment and Joy Bandhu and Joy E-Rik V1 in the passenger segment.
According to the company, it expects electric 3-wheelers to make up between 30-35% of future sales. The company also aims to sell as many as 42,000 units by the conclusion of the current fiscal year. In terms of range, Joy E-Rik V1 has 140 km per charge, Joy Bandhu has 100-120 km per charge, Joy Sahayak Plus and Joy Eco Loader have 120-130 km per charge.

Baxy Mobility Launched E-Magnate, Lion, Chotu, Boss
In the mid of December 2024, Baxy Mobility launched several electric 3-wheelers – Lion, Chotu, Cub, Boss, Taksy, e-Magnate, and ShakteE – for passenger and commercial markets in the country. For small-scale business needs, the Baxy Chotu is a special-purpose L3 category electric cargo 3-wheeler.
The Baxy Lion is an eco-friendly L5 D+3 category-wide body electric three-wheeler designed to replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in the shared mobility market. There are 2 variants of the Baxy e-Magnate – the delivery van and the cargo van. To improve safety, a reverse parking camera is outfitted on the Baxy Boss and Taksy.
Regarding the driving range, Baxy Lion and Baxy Cub deliver 130 km per charge, and Baxxy Taksy delivers 100 km plus per charge, and both variants of the Baxy e-Magnate model offer a range of 130 km plus per charge. The delivery van has a payload capacity of 342 kg, while the cargo van variant can carry loads of 417 kg. Their prices have not been released yet by the company.
