The auto-rickshaw segment recorded strong growth in August '22. We take a look at the retail numbers of the top 10 brands.
In the overall vehicle segment, India’s humble three-wheeler continues to be a bright spot, registering sustained growth across the passenger and cargo carrier segments. Demand for three-wheeler/auto-rickshaw indicates a strong rural, semi-urban market where these affordable, compact vehicles are part of daily life that help in moving people and cargo.
For years, this segment has been dominated by the IC engine-powered vehicle, which is now shifting rapidly towards EVs, as more and more vehicles are being launched in the segment. The affordable price tag, several brands to choose from, and operational benefits in the era of rising fuel prices augur well for the sale of an electric three-wheeler. And the strong retail data is a clear indicator of customer preference.
