The future of haulage operations tends to be electric mobility solutions which are deemed to enhance the turnaround times, offering high-uptime performance. With such anticipation, commercial vehicle manufacturers are focused on large-scale production of electric trucks which offer driving range almost similar to the conventional fuel-powered trucks.
One such automaker that tends to introduce cutting-edge technology-integrated trucks to set new benchmarks in the commercial vehicle industry with high range capacity is Volvo Trucks. As you may know, the brand is known for its significant impact on the long-haul segment, offering trucks with best-in-class performance.
Moreover, while the commercial vehicle sector is heading towards the electrification of heavy trucks to facilitate an improvement in fleet performance, Volvo Trucks has already taken the lead in manufacturing heavy trucks with high torque and range. To continue its innovative journey, the brand is also planning to launch a new long-range version of its FH Electric.

What Makes The Upcoming Volvo FH Electric Unique?
The new long-range version of its FH Electric will be able to offer a driving range of up to 600 km on a single charge. This will be a massive improvement in performance considering the current FH electric truck. According to the brand, this is expected to help improve fleet operations by facilitating interregional and long-distance route-based haulage.
Additionally, Renault Trucks which belongs to the Volvo Group is in the works to launch an XXL electric truck with a range of 600 kilometres as well. Nonetheless, it is confirmed that the Volvo FH Electric with a 600 km driving range will be released for sale during the second half of 2025.
Insights From Volvo Trucks
Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks, said, “Our new electric flagship will be a great complement to our wide range of electric trucks enabling zero-exhaust emission transport for longer distances. It will be a great solution for transport companies with high annual mileage on their trucks, with a strong commitment to reducing CO2.”
“The transport sector represents seven percent of global carbon emissions. Battery-electric trucks are important tools to reduce the climate footprint. Besides the important environmental gains that electric trucks bring, they offer truck drivers a much better working environment, with much lower levels of noise and vibrations,” added Roger Alm.

Technology: Enabling 600 Km Range?
The performance enhancements enabling a 600 km driving range is Volvo’s new driveline technology, called e-axle, complemented by efficient batteries, an improved battery management system and an efficient powertrain. The current FH Electric is one of three heavy-duty electric trucks that Volvo has been consistently improving since 2022.
Competition: Will The Upcoming Volvo FH Electric Survive?
Speaking of contenders, FH Electric can face strong competition from Daimler Truck’s eActros 600 electric heavy-duty truck which is expected to go into production by the end of the year. Additionally, MAN and DAF also want to join the fight in the near future offering the eTruck and XF truck models, respectively.
As for whether the upcoming 600 km range FH Electric will survive the battle with the Titans, the current version is undoubtedly one of the best vehicles available in the market, meaning that the upcoming version should stand tall among other contenders entering the global market.
Nevertheless, while the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and the DAF XF should be able to cover around 500 kilometres and the MAN eTruck around 400 kilometres on a single charge, Volvo Trucks is promising up to 600 kilometres driving range for their new FH-Electric version. This reason alone (range) should ideally help the upcoming truck become a strong contender in the market, also considering its already strong market presence.
Conclusion: What We Think?
Volvo Trucks is globally popular for driving forward with the transition towards manufacturing green-fuel-propelled vehicles. With its three-path technology approach which focuses on constructing battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric and combustion engine-based trucks that run on green fuel such as hydrogen, biogas and similar sorts, the brand is heading in the right direction.
