In a move that marks a significant milestone for Zelio Ebikes, one of India’s electric two-wheeler manufacturers, the company launches its first-ever electric rickshaw models – Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. These electric three-wheelers are cost-effective solutions with a price tag starting at Rs 1.45 Lakhs for the Tanga Butterfly and Rs 1,40,000 Lakhs for the Tanga SS. The two e-rickshaws are designed for urban and semi-urban commuters.
The Tanga Butterfly, constructed with MS - Mild Steel, and Tanga SS, constructed with SS - Stainless Steel, were first showcased at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi in November 2024. This move has enabled Zelio to step into the three-wheeler market and shared mobility space - a step driven by the increasing demand for last-mile connectivity solutions.
What Makes The New Zelio Tanga Models Unique?
The Zelio Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS are powered by a 1200 W electric motor paired with a 48/60 V 135 Ah Eastman battery pack. This electric powertrain configuration enables the vehicle to reach a top speed of 30 kmph and deliver approximately 100 km range when charged for 8 hours. To ensure safe and efficient charging, the e-rickshaws come with a switched-mode power supply (SMPS) charger featuring voltage fluctuation protection.
To make the three-wheelers more appealing to customers, a wide range of colour options are on offer for customers to choose from. The Tanga Butterfly will be available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.

That’s not it, the Zelio Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS come with effective braking systems, featuring a front lever-operated drum brake and a rear paddle-operated drum brake, along with a mechanical hand lever-operated parking brake. Further, the two electric three-wheelers come with 43 mm telescopic shock absorbers in the front and strong leaf springs in the rear ensuring the longevity of the products and lower maintenance costs.
Also, both models come with TVS-made 3.75-12 mm tyres for both the front and rear wheels. The chassis is built with a high-rigidity monocoque frame. With a wheelbase measuring 2030 mm, a length of 2690 mm, a width of 1000 mm and a height of 1710 mm, the vehicle also has sufficient space to seat occupants comfortably. The two models have 200 mm of ground clearance. These make it ideal for urban and semi-urban conditions.

In addition to these specifications that we have discussed, the two electric rickshaws from Zelio come with a plethora of features to make commutes a breeze. These include a wide front glass with a wiper, a stepney with cover, handle lock, FM radio with two speakers, digital instrument cluster, central locking, tough curtains, taxi light, LED cabin light, LED headlamps with DRL, LED indicators, a bottle holder, and a cash pocket. Common accessories for both models include a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack.

Zelio is also offering financing options through AKASHA and TRY Wheels to make the purchase process easier. With plans to expand its dealership network, and further enhance its dedicated dealership network, the company ensures that customers will receive specialised support and services for this new category.
